Our electrical experience is a strength at Solent Power, and we believe it gives us a better service offering.
Our engineers work with major generator brands including: i
From old generator systems to new electronic control systems, we can diagnose and repair issues or even provide cost-effective retrofit upgrades.
Our engineers have the knowledge and experience to upgrade old generator control systems to new deep sea electronics generator controls, COMAP generator control systems, or DEIF generator controls, sometimes done by our engineers in a single day on site.
The new controllers can extend generator lifetimes and increase the operator's reliability and usability.

Generators are complex machines that may go unused for months or even years. However, you'll need to ensure they're reliable and provide backup power when needed.
Our maintenance technicians can identify and fix generator faults, allowing you to benefit from standby power when required.
Routine maintenance is key to identifying issues with critical components and prolonging the generator's lifespan.
For example, changing the oil filters and load testing is more affordable initially than the costs associated with repairs or purchasing replacement parts. Standby generators can last for decades, but ongoing maintenance is a crucial component of that.
By ensuring your generator continues to achieve peak performance, you can reduce its carbon footprint and preserve fuel usage.
Our maintenance services are more cost-effective than the ongoing expenses associated with frequent refuelling, and many organisations have sustainability initiatives that they must meet.
Minor issues are easy to fix, and you can save money by identifying them early. So, while it might seem like you can save money on a thorough inspection in the short term, you should factor in the costs of replacing the generator.
Remember, diesel generators are investments, and prevention is always cheaper than the cure.
Many industries have strict regulations that they must follow, including health, safety, and environmental guidelines.
Generator maintenance ensures compliance with these regulations while protecting your warranty. Many manufacturers will refuse to cover repairs and replacements if you don't invest in maintenance.
Fuel leaks, faulty electrical systems, and damage to your generator's components can all result in severe health and safety issues. Industrial, commercial, and health settings should be particularly worried about maintaining strict safety protocols.
Our maintenance services will assess the support your generator requires and ensure that it doesn't cause any hazards.

Most diesel generators will require a service between 250-500hrs or every 12 months. We recommend testing your generator regularly to ensure it is functioning correctly and to prevent any nasty surprises when you lose power. This can be done weekly or monthly as a simple 5 minute test. Ask us for more information about this.
In our experience most people who try to service their generator themselves will not be thorough enough to spot potential failures. The basic service requirements of replacing oil and filters is simple enough, but there are many things that we check such as engine protection functions, alternator checks, battery testing etc that only an experience technician will know how to do correctly. We recommend always engaging a competent generator service company near you.

Generator oil should be replaced every 500 hours for diesel generators or done every year. In standby generators this can be extended by sampling and testing the oil to ensure it is not contaminated. After time, generator oil degrades during use and loses its lubricating properties and cooling properties, resulting in engine wear which can cause engine failure.
Standby generators can be serviced without any disruption to your power supply or operations. It is completely non-intrusive. Servicing of your generator being used daily for powering machinery will need to be planned around usage. We are flexible and can work with you to find a time that suits you best.
A typical generator service carried out at your workplace will usually range from £300 upwards. This price increases as the size of the generator increases as the service will take longer to carry out.
Service costs vary depending on the level of generator service performed. A minor generator service includes a full inspection and test and report. A major service includes oil change, wet filter replacement and sometimes other works such as battery changes, belts and coolant etc.
The distance travelling to your site will also affect the price so it is important to use a generator service company near you.
We will always endeavor to fix any issues we find during our visit as a convenience for you and to try to save you money on a second visit. For basic parts such as failed relays or small hoses or buttons we may carry something in the engineers vans that can be fitted to help you. If a component or part is required we will identify this and explain the issue to you and provide costs prior to sourcing and replacing.
A diesel generator service varies from around 2 hours to a full day. Some factors that affect the length of time are the generator size and application. A large generator will take longer to change the oil or a High voltage generator may take much longer due to access, permits and isolations required.
A minor generator service is a basic inspection and test, which takes around 2 hours. A major service is much more thorough and filters and oil are replaced and sometimes the generator may also be loadbanked which adds more time to the job.
