This 3 position 100 Amp generator changeover switch can be used to transfer your home between your mains and generator supply during a power outage. The unit features a rotary 100 Amp 2 Pole switch, housed in a plastic IP65 enclosure suitable for indoor installation. Suitable for 230v single phase generator connections only.
When you experience a power cut, simply switch the generator changeover switch into the (o) OFF position. Switch all of your circuit breakers off inside your consumer unit also. After this you can manually or remotely start your generator and return to switch the generator changeover switch across to position 2 which will supply your consumer unit from your generator.
Slowly switch on your individual circuit breakers one at a time to gradually increase the load on your generator. You may need to leave some of them off to prevent overloading the generator and potentially causing it to shut down or overheat.
Always use a qualified and competent electrician for the installation of this product. The switch is designed to be installed between your incoming fuses and your consumer unit. The 1st position of the switch will be connected to your mains supply from your fuses and will supply your consumer unit in normal circumstances. The 2nd position on the switch is designed for your generator to connect into. The centre position (0) is open and used to prevent connecting your generator to your mains supply momentarily during switching.
This generator changeover switch should be installed indoors and close to where your incoming fuses and consumer unit are. The generator feed can be wired to an external IP67 230vac plug for ease of connection during power loss or grid disturbances when restoring the power is priority.
For the UK you can use any portable generator, inverter generator or diesel generator up to 15kVA that produces 230v 50Hz output.
The advantages of using a portable generator or inverter or leisure generator is that you can store the generator inside a shed or garage and bring it out in the case of an outage and simply plug it into the external plug socket and press start.
