Turnkey standby generator project for London Zoo

The Challenge

London Zoo needed a new 200kVA standby generator, with new cabling and containment routed from the site’s main switchboard down to a basement plant space. As a live, publicly-open visitor attraction, every stage of the delivery and installation had to be carefully planned around restricted site access and the Zoo’s opening hours.

The Solution

Solent Power worked with the Zoo’s design consultants to verify the correct generator sizing and specification, surveyed the site, and prepared plans for the new cabling and containment required from the main switchboard to the basement.

• 200kVA Himoinsa HFW-200 T5 standby generator with extended-run base tank for 24-hour autonomy
• Generator sizing and specification verified in collaboration with the Zoo’s design consultants
• Site survey and design of new cabling and containment from the main switchboard to the basement
• 400A Socomec automatic transfer switch panel with manual override capability
• Planned shutdowns, with a temporary generator supporting the site load throughout
• Delivery carefully coordinated around tight site access and restricted works windows dictated by public opening hours
• Full commissioning carried out by Solent Power’s own engineers
• Remote gateway installed for continuous event and fault logging
