The Cat XQP550 is a 550 kVA (440 kW) Stage V diesel generator designed to deliver dependable 50 Hz three-phase power for large UK installations. It is powered by the proven Cat C18 turbocharged-aftercooled engine, which offers high output, excellent fuel efficiency and robust performance in demanding environments. This generator is aimed at industrial, commercial and utility users who need a reliable, low-emission power source at standard 400/230 V.

Heavy-duty base and fuel system

The generator is built on a heavy-duty steel baseframe that incorporates a dual-wall fuel tank sized to give approximately 12 hours runtime at 75% prime load. Integrated skid plates, drag points and forklift pockets make handling and positioning the set more straightforward. The dual-wall design provides 110% containment of on-board fluids and includes a bund level alarm to support safe, environmentally responsible operation.

Control, monitoring and protection

An XQCP digital controller provides engine and alternator control, full power metering and configurable alarms. Operators benefit from a clear front panel interface, emergency stop and comprehensive protective functions to help safeguard both the generator and connected loads. Two-wire remote start/stop and AC auxiliary power connections make it easy to integrate the XQP550 with automatic transfer switches and site control systems.

Alternator and voltage regulation

The XQP550 uses an LC6114K brushless, self-excited alternator designed to match the C18 engine output. Class H insulation, IP23 protection and coastal insulation treatment help ensure long service life in harsh conditions. A three-phase sensing AVR with adjustable volts-per-hertz regulation maintains stable voltage and low harmonic distortion across a wide range of loads.

Noise and emissions performance

The galvanized, powder-coated enclosure is acoustically treated with precision-cut insulation to achieve low external noise levels, making the generator suitable for use near occupied buildings and work areas. Its Stage V emissions package, including a remote-mounted clean emissions module and DEF system, is engineered to meet strict EU regulations while running on ultra low sulphur diesel and approved biodiesel blends. The fully bunded base and controlled exhaust layout further support safe and compliant operation.
