Solent Power received an urgent call to attend and advise on a generator fault in Hampshire for a recycling company.
Their Atlas Copco diesel generator had suffered main alternator stator winding failure, causing the generator to shut down and not produce any voltage output.
The generator was a crucial piece of equipment for their operations and without it they were losing a lot of money.
We advised that there were two options in this case:
Have the generator failed alternator removed and sent away for rewinding, with an approximate cost of up to £9k including transport and labour for the removal and reinstatement.

In addition to this, these works would have a turnaround time of 5-6 weeks meaning that they would need to arrange a generator hire at additional costs.
The generator was also an ex-hire generator that had been bought used and had served over 10000 run hours. It needed other works including major servicing and a water pump.
The total costs to reinstate their failed diesel generator could reach above 20k in total with all costs considered.
We offered a replacement new generator to the client as an alternative option.
The benefit of this would be quick turnaround and return of their power supply.
In addition to this, the new generator would be much more reliable and have the support of a new equipment warranty also.
We offered a new Pramac canopied diesel generator featuring a quality Swedish built Volvo Penta diesel generator engine.

With the sale we offered the client free installation and also a first service free to ensure that the generator operated correctly and there were no issues.
